This beautiful Singer 99k came off the assembly line at the famous Kilbowie factory, Clydebank, Scotland just in time for the Centenary year. 1951 was a very special year for the Company, it was exactly a 100 years earlier that the company founder, Isaac Merritt Singer, started business. To mark this very special year Singer made a unique badge for their centenary machines sold in 1951. It is the only time in Singer’s history that these special machines were marked with this centenary badge.
Along with this fantastic Singer 99k, you will receive a signed copy of the ‘Isaac Singer – The First Capitalist‘ book by Alex Askaroff.
This special machine is from the Sewalot Collection!
The factory where this machine was made, on the banks of the River Clyde, was reported at its peak to employ around 14,000 people, with over 2,000 just on their furniture, box and cabinet side. They even had their own railway line, stations and docks. They managed their own forests for timber. Nearly everybody in the area worked for Singers. Accurate time keeping with such a large workforce was essential. Singer’s solution was to build a huge clock tower that could be seen from every house in the district, so there was no excuse to be late. The factory finally closed its doors in 1979.
This machine has been well loved and looked after. It has a few of the usual tiny pin marks and scratches and has all original decals and is in beautiful condition!
This is a rare centenary model to mark 100 years of Singer sewing machines!
Many say that the Singer model 99 (the little sister to the Singer 66 Lotus/Redeye) was the first great portable sewing machine. It came out around 1911 and was so perfect it remained hardly changed until 1960. This beauty has all the hallmarks of a well loved and cared for machine. It was made in at the great Singer factory on the banks of the River Clyde in Kilbowie, Scotland.
The machine comes with lots of extras including beautiful mom croc case, bobbins, thread, needles, tools, attachments, original instruction book and more, see pictures. Fantastic condition.
An amazing rare addition to any collection. A very special machine.
