There are Singer 99Ks… and then there are Singer 99Ks like this one.
Professionally and meticulously restored and serviced by Vintage Sewing Machines UK, this beautiful British-built machine is one of the sought-after “Red S” models, named after the distinctive multicoloured Singer badge proudly displayed on the pillar.
Serial Number ER032570 dates this machine to 1960, making it one of the last black-bodied 99Ks ever produced at Singer’s famous Kilbowie factory in Clydebank, Scotland.
What makes this machine particularly interesting is that Singer changed the way serial numbers were recorded during these final years of production. Rather than using the familiar brass serial plate fitted to earlier machines, the number is stamped directly into a raised casting beneath the bed.
The ER serial sequence belongs to one of the final production runs, built as Singer was preparing to move on to the newer generation of machines. As a result, this represents one of the last examples of the classic British-made black cast-iron 99K before production came to an end.
As always, this machine has been completely and thoroughly cleaned, serviced, adjusted and stitch tested here in our East Sussex workshop and now sews beautifully, ready to be enjoyed for many more years.
