1883 Singer Model 12 – From The Sewalot Collection

A truly beautiful Singer Model 12 hand-crank sewing machine dating to 1883, now ready to find its next home.

Serial number 5,647,361 falls within a Singer production allocation made at the company’s Glasgow Bridgeton factory on 14 April 1883. The Singer Model 12 was the British-built version of the famous New Family machine and remains one of the most recognisable sewing machines of the Victorian era. When production later continued at Singer’s Kilbowie factory, the British-made version became known as the Model 12K, with the “K” denoting Kilbowie.

This example forms part of the Sewalot Collection and is presented with its wonderful original-style wooden base and bentwood cover. The machine retains its fabulous ornate decoration and displays exactly the sort of character and patina we love to see on a machine of this age.

Alongside the machine are historic sewing notions which once belonged to a court dressmaker to the Royal Family, giving the whole collection a lovely connection to Britain’s sewing history.

Included with the machine:

• Signed copy of A Brief History of the Sewing Machine by Alex Askaroff
• Poppy Whitmore’s The Thimblewick Mysteries – Book One: The Poisoned Cup
• VSMUK Singer 12K Notebook
• Instruction manual
• Historic sewing notions belonging to a court dressmaker to the Royal Family
• Spare bobbins
