This special machine makes a perfect stitch after 136 years!

Jones originally advertised this machine as ‘The Prettiest Stitch Of Any Sewing Machine In Existence’. Not only did it win awards but it paved the way for the Jones Cylinder Shuttle, C.S machine to conquer the British market when it later carried the ‘Royal Warrant’.
This beautiful Empress Jones was called Cat Back, Serpentine or Swan Neck. Actually the original full name for this model when sold by Jones (under their own badge) was Empress Of India (later simply Empress). This model from 1888 doesn’t have the middle tension post that the super early ones have, it has the updated tension adjustment on the front.
This model has the hard wearing brass medallion. The later machines also had fibreglass gears which proved to be a real problem when one broke… which was quite often the case. This one has original metal gears!
This fantastic, very rare Jones Empress comes with needles, needle threader, thread, pin cushions, sewing notions that belonged to a court dress maker to the British royal family and a Home Guard Training book by Lieutenant Colonel J. H. Levey. The book has been with the machine, so it will stay with it as it moves on to the next chapter of this beautiful machines very long and no doubt fantastic life.
Along with this fantastic Jones, you will receive a signed copy of the ‘A Brief History Of The Sewing Machine’ book by Alex Askaroff.
It was the Empress that put Jones on the map as a force to be reckoned with in sewing machines manufacture.
This is a slightly more modern and improved version of what was the first of their big sellers.
