JG Weir
£649.00
Well here is a beautiful example of a very early JG Weir Chainstitch sewing machine. Displayed beautiful on its plinth made by The Winslow Wood Company it would make a fantastic centrepiece.
With its straight cut gears and basic tension system, this machine was distributed from the Carlisle Street address in Soho.
It was originally advertised as SIMPLE, SILENT, RAPID and DURABLE, all of these things are still true, it is very simple, very quiet, rapid if you consider that they were comparing it to stitching by hand, and of course durable…… It’s still here after 150 something years!
Its truly amazing to think that you can now buy a mass produced machine, mostly made from plastic that can break after a year or one made mostly by hand over a century ago and it works as good today as it did in the 1800’s…. mind blowing really.
Along with this fantastic JG Weir, you will also receive a signed copy of the ‘Chas Raymond and James Weir’ book by Alex Askaroff.
This beautiful little machine comes with lots of goodies, including spare needles, thread, some wartime pictures (that have been with it so will stay with it), needle threader, a Weir notepad, pin cushion, some sewing notions that belonged to a court dress maker to the British royal family and of course the signed book!
This is an opportunity to get your hands on something very special.
An amazing addition to any collection.
